Professor Divine Ahadzie has been appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Flood Risk Management, a globally respected academic journal published by John Wiley & Sons.
The appointment makes Prof. Ahadzie the only African scholar on the journal’s nearly 50-member editorial board, marking a significant milestone for both Ghana and the African continent in the field of flood risk management.
John Wiley & Sons, founded in 1807, is one of the world’s most distinguished academic publishers, with a long-standing reputation for excellence in scholarly communication. The Journal of Flood Risk Management serves as a key platform for cutting-edge research in understanding, assessing, and mitigating flood-related disasters worldwide.
Prof. Ahadzie’s appointment is a recognition of his decade-long track record in flood risk management research, culminating in the publication of the first academic handbook on community flood risk management initiatives. His work has focused extensively on developing locally informed strategies for flood preparedness and resilience, especially in vulnerable urban communities.
Reacting to the appointment, Prof. Ahadzie described it as a personal honour and a major win for African scholarship. “Being the only African on the editorial board is both humbling and empowering. It shows that African voices and experiences are increasingly being recognised in shaping global research conversations on disaster resilience,” he said.
In his role as an editorial board member, Prof. Ahadzie will contribute to the peer review and strategic development of the journal, helping to uphold its high academic standards while potentially creating more visibility for African-led research in the field.
Prof. Ahadzie is based at the Centre for Settlements Studies within KNUST’s College of Art and Built Environment, where he has supervised several pioneering studies on disaster risk, urban planning, and climate adaptation.
